MEET THE STAFF

Ernesia DeAnna (Wideman) Wright  

Team Market Owner

Ernesia DeAnna (Wideman) Wright, a widely recognized sports entrepreneur and motivational speaker, was born in Augusta, Georgia, and she serves as the Deputy Director of Operations for the City of Augusta’s Parks and Recreation Department. In addition, she recently retired from the United States Army as a Major and Human Resources Officer.

Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Augusta University, a master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Webster University, and she was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant at Alabama A& M University.

Furthermore, Wright’s military educational training includes an Adjutant Officer Basic Course and BDE S-1 Course, a Postal Supervisor Course, a Master Resilience Course, and an Advance Adjutant General Officer Course.

Her military assignments include Brigade S1, 6th Brigade ROTC, Hunter Army Airfield, Battalion S1, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Operations and Plans Officer, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Her past assignment includes Brigade S1, 165th Infantry Brigade, Fort Jackson, Sc, Battalion S1, 110th Chemical Battalion JBLM, WA.

As a result of her work in the military, Wright received several accolades including the Meritorious Service Medal(with oak leaf 2), the Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf 2), the Army Achievement Medal (with oak leaf 3), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Ribbon.

She is also the founder of The Georgia Soul Women’s and Men’s Basketball Organization, a an organization that gives men and women an opportunity to continue their basketball careers on a professional level. The athletes not only focus on winning on the court, but their team spirit is seen in their community projects, basketball clinics, and mentorships.

With her leadership, the Georgia Soul won the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) Atlantic Region Championship two years in a row. The team went on to win the WBCBL National Championship making them the first women’s basketball professional team in the Augusta area to win a national title. The Georgia Soul Men in their first season(2021-2022) were the American Basketball Association (ABA) Georgia State Champions.

Wright’s personal basketball career spans over two decades, and includes her leading Augusta University women’s basketball team to their first South Atlantic Region Championship and her finishing 12th in Women’s Basketball All Time scoring at Augusta University. She went on to play professionally signing her first contract with CST Alexandria, in which she played two seasons in Alexandria, Romania.

In her spare time, Wright enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband Rocardo and their daughters Zoey and Zia. She also gives back to the community in many capacities, including being a mentor to teenagers and young adults. She is a 2022 Graduate of Leadership of Augusta and a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Marilyn M. Norris

Director of Hospitality/Community Liaison

BIOGRAPHY

Marilyn M. Norris is a compelling speaker, author and entrepreneur that will motivate your attendees to thrive for greatness.  She has been a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children for over 8 years.  She realized once she started working with the youth, that she wanted to be a part of shaping our leaders of the future.  Marilyn is the Founder/CEO of Girl Warriors Fighting the Battle (GW), LLC.  GW is an organization that provides programs and services to girls, in grades 4th – 12th, in underserved communities, and prepares them for personal, education and economic success.  Marilyn feels that empowering our girls and giving them the tools to succeed is vital for them to become future women leaders in today’s society.

Marilyn is a three times breast cancer Survivor and a 20 year Advocate for breast cancer.  She is also the First Vice President of Cher’s Sisters Only Club where she serves her community by assisting with the Shero Award, Scholarship Ball, Camp Be Your Best, Prom a Palooza and many other events that the organization sponsors.  Marilyn is also on the Board of Directors with Augusta Partnership for Children.  She is the President of the Master City Adjutant General Chapter and the National Membership Coordinator for Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority, Inc.  Marilyn is vested in the community

Marilyn currently works as the Casualty Assistance Branch Chief for Advanced Technology Leaders Inc. on Fort Gordon.  She supports the family members of our deceased Veterans whether Active Duty or Retired.

Michael Sweeper

Director of Basketball Operations

 

BIOGRAPHY

Michael Sweeper has been around the game of basketball as a coach for nearly 20 years. Beginning with East Augusta Middle School as an assistant coach for boys basketball in 2000. Michael’s professional experience began in 2006 as he served as Assistant Coach with Augusta Blaze and continued with the Georgia Soul in 2015 in the same role for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Due to his dedication and diligence for the Georgia Soul, Michael was promoted to Operations while continuing to serve as an assistant coach.

Aside from coaching, Michael has a passion for community involvement. Volunteer efforts include Master’ Table Soup Kitchen, Under the Bridge Ministries, Stamp Out Hunger campaign and various other events. Currently, Michael is also the Vice President of the Sand Hills Neighborhood Association. Michael also has a passion for helping the youth and participates in several activities catered toward the education and advancement of the youth of Augusta and surrounding areas. Michael began mentoring and teaching young men and women at Elim Baptist Church in 2000 and continues currently as a Youth Director at Elim Baptist Church.

Michael currently works as a Material Planner in the Global Integrated Supply Chain Team at Club Car and has one beautiful daughter, Mikayla Sweeper.

Oliver Ottley

Head Coach

BIOGRAPHY

Oliver Ottley has been around basketball both playing and coaching for over 30 years. He was a standout player at the Academy of Richmond County and Augusta University. Coach O played for the Men’s local professional team the Augusta Grooves in 2008. He began coaching in 2005 at Langford Middle School.

Since 2009 he has been an assistant coach with Westminster boys basketball. His professional coaching experience started in 2015 with the Georgia Kings where he served as the Assistant and Head Coach. He also served as the assistant coach for the 2016 /2017 Regional and National Champions Georgia Soul Women’s Basketball team.

In 2018 he served as the head coach for the 76ers. Professionally, Coach O is a mental health and substance abuse case manager at American Works. He has one beautiful daughter, Olivia Ottley who is 20 years old.

Vonteego Cummings

Assistant Coach

 Vonteego Cummings was born in Thomson, GA, and a graduate of Thomson High School.

College Career

At the University of Pittsburgh, Vonteego Cummings averaged 16.1 points, 4.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals in his senior season. For his career, the 6-4 guard averaged 15.3 points, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals.

NBA Career

Cummings, a first-round pick by the Indiana Pacers in ’99, was traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he played for 2 seasons (1999-2001). As a rookie, he averaged 9.4 points and 3.3 assists.  In 2000-2001, he averaged 7.3 points and 3.4 assists. Cummings was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers prior to the 2001–02 season, in which he averaged 3.3 points and 1 assist per game. In September 2002, Cummings signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but was waived before the start of the season. In Cummings’ three NBA seasons, he averaged 6.9 (1381 total) points and 2.7 assists, shooting .383 from the field in 199 games (23 starts).

European Career

He began his overseas career in Italy with Carisbo Castelmaggiore in the 2003–04 season. He played with the Westchester Wildfire of the United States Basketball League (USBL) during the summer of 2003 and summer 2004. After that, he returned to Europe and signed with the Serbian team Hemofarm Vršac for the 2004–05 season. Cummings started the 2005–06 season with the Fort Worth Flyers of the NBA Development League (NBDL), but in February 2006 he returned to Serbia, and signed with Partizan Belgrade until the end of the season. He played there and in the 2006–07 season, having a successful season averaging 12.9 points and 3.4 assists over 20 games.

That performance secured his move to Maccabi Tel Aviv, on a two-year deal.  He then transferred with Estudiantes from Spain, and stayed there until December until the end of the 2008–09 season. He then played with Vojvodina Srbijagas, and finished with Cedevita of Croatia. Cummings’ next station was Greece, where he played the entire 2009–10 season for Ilysiakos. In the 2010–11 season, Cummings played for Keravnos in Cyprus. In October 2011, he signed with the Polish team Trefl Sopot.

BSN Puerto Rico

Cummings signed a contract with the Atenienses de Manatí of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) in Puerto Rico on January 21, 2015 and played there for a brief time before his departure.  Cummings was also an assistant coach for Atenienses de Manatí in the Puerto Rican professional league for three years. In 2021 he was honored with a jersey retirement ceremony at the Thomson-McDuffie County Recreation Center. Cummings is the current head coach for the Georgia Soul Women’s Basketball team.

Deshawne Blocker

Assistant Coach

Ms. Deshwane Blocker was born was born in Augusta, GA, and a graduate of T.W. Josey High School.

College Career

Blocker was a four-year letterwinner at ETSU, where she was able to earn a place in the NCAA record books. She led the NCAA during the 1993-94 campaign in both rebounds for a season (450) and rebounds per game (17.3). Blocker, the third-highest scorer in ETSU history with 2,086 points, posted the highest rebounding game in the NCAA during both the 1993 and 1994 seasons, with 25 and 28 boards. Her 28 rebounds against Covenant is still the greatest rebounding performance in Lady Buccaneer history.

She was a two-time SoCon Player of the Year, and was also tabbed SoCon Freshman of the Year in 1992, as well as SoCon Tournament MVP and SoCon Female Athlete of the Year in 1995. Blocker was named First Team All-Conference from 1992-95, and was listed as one of the candidates for the Ban/Naismith Player-of-the-Year award during her 1994 season.

One of the most heralded players in Lady Buc history, Blocker was a U.S. Basketball Association honorable mention All-American in 1994 and 1995.

Blocker remains one of five women’s basketball players to be named First Team All-SoCon four times in a career.

Following her time at ETSU, Blocker went on to play three years of professional basketball in Europe, before eventually returning to the Bucs program as an assistant coach.

She is just the fifth women’s basketball player to be inducted into the SoCon Hall of Fame.

European Career

Deshawne spent three years playing professionally in Spain, Greece, Austria and Finland. Along with her playing experience.

Brandi Grubbs is a product of Richmond County School System where she played basketball and softball.  She has coached basketball on the middle and high school level for 8 years, track and field on the middle and high school level for 3 years, softball on the high school level for 1 year, and volleyball on the high school level for 1 year. In her last year of coaching she helped to lead 3 teams to the state playoffs (volleyball, basketball, and track & field). She stepped down from coaching in 2019 to focus on her passion of media relations for sport teams and organizations in the CSRA.

Reyna Adams

BIOGRAPHY

Reyna Adams has been around basketball for over 20 years. Basketball is a passion and a stress reliever for Reyna. Whether playing the game of basketball or being a part of basketball in any form or fashion is a win win for Reyna. Reyna attended Glenn Hills High School here in Augusta, Ga. Reyna was a part of the dynamic Lady Spartans all four years in high school. Reyna was also a part of the Lady Spartans 2002 State Championship Team for the Lady Spartans.

After high school, Reyna took her talents to Fort Valley State University on a basketball scholarship. Reyna was a Lady Wildcat for 3 years at Fort Valley State University.

After leaving college in 2007, Reyna moved to Germany during her time in Germany she was an Assistant coach for Hohenfels American High School for a year. Reyna also started her career working for Child and Youth Services.

Reyna earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University in 2011. Reyna currently and has worked for Child and Youth Services for the past 10 years. Her current position is Facility Director for Child and Youth Services.

For the past five years Reyna has been a Coach for the Gerald White All-Star games. Coaching both the middle school and high school players. Also for the past five years Reyna also gives back to the community by being a part of the annual Glenn Hills High alumni basketball game held every year during homecoming football season in order to raise money for the Athletic Department for her Alma mater.

Reyna is the mother of Ph’Nesse Adams. Aside from her love of basketball, being a parent is near and dear to her heart. As she continues this journey of life to be a part of helping young people strive and grow to their potential is always refreshing and rewarding.

In Reyna’s spare time she likes to travel, spending time with family and friends, laughing and just enjoying every moment.

Rashad A. Glover

Rashad A. Glover is the 3rd child of Vickie and Robert L. Glover. He was born and raised in Augusta Georgia and is a product of the Richmond County School System. Rashad played basketball for T. W. JOSEY Comprehensive High School under the leadership of Emmet Rouse. After High School, Rashad attended Savannah State University where he majored in Accounting.

Shortly after college, Rashad moved to Atlanta, GA.  During his time in Atlanta, he aligned himself with one of the most influential record companies in the music industry, Street Execs Management (Home of Travis Porter, 2 Chainz, Cap 1, Young Dolph, Skooly, Bankroll Fresh, Trouble, just to name a few). During Rashad’s time at the record company he had various roles, from assisting in the Accounting department to producing a music video.
Rashad Glover also became the General Manager of 3 E-Commerce businesses (Djservicepack.com, seethesound.com & everyinstrumental.com). This was a very challenging role given that these businesses were all built from the ground up. After the success of those companies, Rashad took on the role as a project manager for artists such as Boochie, Cosanostra Kidd & Worl 1 General.

Rashad A. Glover is a strong believer in hard work and building relationships. Glover is a one of a kind innovative executive. He is always eager to increase his personal and professional growth through various experiences. Glover currently resides in his hometown, Augusta, GA, and enjoys reading to elevate and challenge himself to achieve his wildest dreams.
