What began as a dream quickly evolved into a reality, when former CSRA and 20 plus year basketball veteran and star, Ernesia Wright, created the Georgia Soul Women’s Professional Basketball Organization. Established in November 2015, the Georgia Soul quickly made its mark in the basketball world locally and nationally. Two-time regional champions in the WBCBL in 2016 and 2017 respectively, the Georgia Soul would go on to win the national championship in 2017, defeating the defending Champions the St. Louis Surge.
After taking a brief hiatus and much anticipation, the Georgia Soul returned as a force to be reckoned with in 2020; however, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the anticipation would continue. In the Winter of 2021, the Georgia Soul launched its inaugural “I Have Dream Tournament” which added a twist to the traditional Georgia Soul, hosting 6 teams from throughout the Southeast. In April of 2021 the Georgia Soul hosted a Spring JAM incorporating a men’s team. Giving the city an all-star performance, in which they did not disappoint. It was at this point that the Georgia Soul realized that they had something the city wanted and from this the Georgia Soul Men’s Basketball team was born.
Showcasing some of the best raw and trained talent in the country, the Georgia Soul Men’s basketball team brought the game of basketball back to life for the city of Augusta after winning the American Basketball Association’s Southeastern Region Championship in 2021. The Georgia Soul Men’s Basketball team will continue to restore the love of the game of basketball for young and old. Following the mission and vision of the Georgia Soul, the dedicated men and women of the Georgia Soul believe in hard work, integrity, dignity, community involvement, and being the best representation of the CSRA. Stay tuned for Georgia Soul 2.0.
